Nyandoto Community Development Initiative was formed way back in 2007 and later came to be registered in 2011 with the Ministry of Gender and Social Development as a Non-Profit Community Based Organization under registration number NCDI 0125/2011.

Conceptual Underpinning

NCDI was formed as a result of the realization that development is both a reality and a state of mind, by which societies, through socio-economic and institutional processes secure the means for a better life.

Objectives

• To increase the availability and widen the distribution of basic life sustaining goods e.g. Food, Shelter, Clothing and Healthcare.
  
• To raise the living standards of people including and in addition to higher incomes, the creation of more jobs, access to education, and an improved attention to cultural and humanistic values.
  
• To expand the range of socio-economic and political choice of individuals by freeing them from servitude; of themselves and nature, dependence on other people, and freeing them from the forces of ignorance, social systems, nature and dogmatic beliefs which lead to human misery and/or deprivation.

Assumption

Wealth enables people to gain control over nature and gives people the freedom to choose greater leisure, to have more goods and services or voluntarily deny the importance of material wealth and live a life of spiritual contemplation.

Location

NCDI is located in Koyolo Sub-Location, Gem East Location, Rangwe Division of Homa Bay District in Nyanza Province .

The nearest twin market centre, Asumbi and Cinema are about 20 km from Kisii Town. The area is cosmopolitan, consisting of various tribes but most predominant are Kisii and Luo tribes. For a livelihood, the people practice small-scale farming and petty trade. Crops grown in this region are cassava, sorghum, maize, millet and groundnuts. In the recent past, the area has experienced very high HIV/AIDS related deaths to the extent that it’s impact on population, interms of its composition, and economic growth is no longer a secret.
